Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. How often should I get a massage?

A. This depends on many factors but here is a guide. Regular massage is important for good health. If you're aiming to improve your health and wellbeing it's important to come more frequently initially, at least once or twice a week. Your sessions will be more effective this way as you can build on the progress you make each time without allowing tension to creep back in between massages. After a number of sessions you should find yourself in a different state of health with no pain, less tension, more range of movement and a general feeling of wellbeing. You can then maintain your health with a regular, less frequent massage. Perhaps every 4 to 6 weeks should do it. Although this depends largely on your lifestyle and the amount of physical activity or stress in your life.

Q. I had a massage yesterday. Why am I sore today?

A. A deep tissue massage is very much like doing a workout. If the muscles aren't used to it they often respond with some soreness. This is completely fine and should last no longer than a day or two after the treatment. Drinking plenty of water after the massage and for the next couple of days can help speed up the process. If it lasts longer than two days then the therapist probably used more pressure than was right for you at that time. Just ask your therapist to use less pressure next time and see how your body reacts. As you get more treatments and get rid of the tension in your body, you'll find this happens less and less.
